Jaipur: Rajasthan Administrative Services (Mains) exam has been postponed. The exam was to be conducted on January 28 and January 29. Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) said the decision has been taken in view of the high court’s order with regard to withdrawal of 5% reservation to special backward classes (SBC) quota.

According to RPSC officials, the exam was to held as per schedule, but has been postponed due to certain complications arising out of Rajasthan high court’s order dated December 9, 2016.

The commission had issued admission cards and completed all preparations, but the sudden decision has left thousands of aspirants in the lurch.

The high court on December 9 scrapped the Rajasthan Special Backward Classes (SBC) reservation Act 2015 that provisioned for 5% quota to five communities, including Gujjars.

The court struck down the notification of October 2015, citing lack of “extraordinary circumstances” to allow the state’s overall reservation in government jobs and education institutes to go beyond the 50% cap.

The government had provided 5% SCB reservation following years of violent Gujjar agitation. The overall reservation in the state reached 54%, which was in violation of the 50% cap set by the Supreme Court.
