Jaipur: The student leaders of Rajasthan University (RU) have started making preparations for the upcoming student union elections 2022. Both Congress-backed NSUI and BJP-supported ABVP will soon start campaigning for the elections that are likely to be held in August.

NSUI office-bearers thanked Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot. NSUI state spokesperson Ramesh Bhati said that NSUI state president Abhishek Choudhary had recently met CM Gehlot with the demand that the student union elections be organized in the state again.

“We welcome the decision of CM Gehlot. It would give student leaders an opportunity to come forward and raise the issues pertaining to student welfare,” said Bhati.

ABVP national secretary Hushyar Singh Meena said that their organization had been demanding the elections for a long time.

“The Congress government had to accept our demand. The student leaders would be able to work towards the welfare of the students of various universities and colleges in the state,” Meena said.

There are 28,000 voters in Rajasthan University and its affiliated colleges.

The student union elections have not been organized in the state since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the classes were suspended, the government put a ban on the elections.

Now that, the Covid-19 cases are on a decline, the government has allowed the unions to start campaigning.
