Jaipur: The last date for applying for the post of Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor has been announced. The search committee formed to find a suitable candidate for the post said that eligible candidates can apply by May 22.
The process for selecting the suitable candidate is likely to be completed by the first week of July.
Rajasthan University released the eligibility criteria that a candidate has to meet for applying for the post.
After conducting interviews, the search committee will prepare a list of five candidates and send it to the state governor office for approval. The government will then appoint the V-C in consultation with the state government.
As per the conditions, a candidate should have a minimum 10 years of experience as a professor.
The tenure will be for 3 years and the maximum age limit has been capped at 70 years.
The search committee sought applications after the state government recently amended the bill pertaining to the appointment of V-Cs in government universities in the assembly.
The post of Rajasthan University vice-chancellor is lying vacant since January. Rajasthan high court had sought an explanation as to why the office of the V-C was being occupied by someone undeserving for the post. Then V-C JP Singhal resigned following the comments.
On January 2, the high court commented that the office of V-C could not be occupied by someone undeserving for the post while hearing a petition against his appointment.
The search committee to appoint the new V-C was constituted three months ago, but after reports of the state government bringing some amendments in the law related to the appointment of VC, the committee slowed down its work.
The search committee also now sought guidance from the governor office on the appointment.
