Rajasthan to run out of Covid-19 vaccines today; 12 die in 24 hours

The health department has started identifying micro containment zones in Jaipur.

Jaipur: Even the Covid-19 spread is getting out of control in Rajasthan, the state is likely to face a shortage vaccine doses. The state may run out of doses on Saturday, senior medical and health department officials said. This will deal a heavy blow to the ongoing vaccination drive.

The vaccination came to an end at nearly 350 centres in the state on Saturday. Now the people are being vaccinated at only 150 centres.

The districts which are reporting the lack of vaccines include Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Alwar and Karauli. It is believed that it may take a couple of days before Rajasthan receives a new lot of vaccine doses.

An officer said that the state now has about 5 lakh doses. Taking into consideration the vaccination rate, the state will run out of vaccines today.

“Nearly 5 lakh people are being vaccinated in Rajasthan on a daily basis. We immediately need a new lot of vaccines to continue with the vaccination drive,” said the officer.

The state reported 12 causalities from Covid-19 infection on Friday. The recovery rate has also come down by 4% in the past 10 days. The recovery rate was 96.35 till March 31, but it has come down to 92.38%. The number of active cases has crossed 24,000. It was 8663 on March 31.

The state government had extended the night curfew duration in some cities including Jaipur. The curfew now comes into effect at 8 pm. All the commercial establishments have to be closed by 7 pm.
