Jaipur: The miners of Rajasthan will now be able to get environmental clearance permission for mining over an area up to 100 hectares of land in the state.

The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority has been set up in Rajasthan at the state level to issue environmental clearance for mining up to 100 hectares land. The notification related to this was issued by the Union Ministry of Forests and Environment on August 14.

Earlier, the miners had to go to Delhi to get environmental clearance from the ministry. But now they will be able to get permit in the state itself. Almost 90 percent of the mining falls under this category in Rajasthan.

Officials say that this will provide relief to mining traders of the state.

The state government can nowstart auctioning by making gravel blocks up to 100 hectares. There are more than 10 thousand small gravel blocks in the state as estimated.

A Supreme Court order had banned gravel (Bajari) mining across the state earlier as the leaseholders have failed to obtain environment clearance from the central government.
