JAIPUR: The patients getting treatment for cancer at Rajasthan State Cancer Institute will not have to run from pillar to post to find a blood bank. The institute will now have its own blood bank soon, sources said.

Currently, the patients and their wards have to go to SMS Hospital if they need blood. “Rajasthan State Cancer Institute will soon have a blood bank. The preparations to operate the blood bank on the institute premises have already started,” said an institute official.

This will be a big relief for cancer patients and their family members who still have to rely on the SMS Hospital infrastructure for blood and many other tests.

Other departments related to cancer treatment that are currently operational in SMS Hospital will also be shifted to Rajasthan State Cancer Institute. The medical and health department of the Rajasthan government and SMS Hospital administration has started preparations to shift all testing facilities to Rajasthan State Cancer Institute.

Currently, OPD is held in Cancer Institute for three days and in SMS Hospital for the remaining three days in a week. Critical patients are not admitted to State Cancer Institute because there is no facility for testing and blood. Unless these facilities are not available at the State Cancer Institute, serious patients can’t get proper treatment.

“The process to shift the testing facilities have already started. State Cancer Institute will soon have all the testing facilities so that the patients don’t have to visit SMS Hospital at all,” the officer said. The institute is located in Pratap Nagar.
