Rajasthan SOG arrests four arms smugglers ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s special operations group (SOG) has arrested four arms smugglers in Deeg area of Bharatpur district and seized six pistols and four cartridges ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The weapons were smuggled from Uttar Pradesh.
The SOG officials were keeping a tab on arms smuggling keeping in view the general elections. They got a tip-off that a gang was attempting to smuggle arms in a large quantity into Rajasthan from Uttar Pradesh. A team was rushed to Bharatpur under the supervision of police inspector Dharmaveer Singh. The team came to know about some smugglers including Sher Singh Yadav, a resident of Govindgarh in Jaipur district. Sher Singh had gone to Bharatpur to get the delivery of the weapons from Shaukeen, Arsad and Munfed.
The team put these smugglers under surveillance and arrested them on Sunday. Six pistols and some cartridges were recovered from their possession. The weapons were to be brought to Jaipur.
“Sher Singh has a criminal record. He was arrested in several cases of bike thefts. A warrant was also issued against him,” said an SOG officer.
