Jaipur: Rajasthan Police will distribute five lakh Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) packets to constables across the state to protect them from dehydration and heatstroke during duty in the ongoing heatwave, on the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma.

The exercise is being supported by Ashish Poddar, a Jhunjhunu-origin businessman based in Mumbai and associated with Rotary Club Mumbai, whose contribution has enabled the scale of the distribution.

The drive is being led by DIG (Training) Sharad Chaudhary. Under his supervision, the relief material is being routed through 12 police training centres within Rajasthan and four training centres run by the force outside the state, with Range IGs ensuring onward delivery to every constable on the ground.

Each constable will receive 10 ORS packets to help stay hydrated through long duty hours in extreme temperatures. Personnel deployed on traffic duty, law and order, patrolling and other public-facing assignments are expected to benefit the most.

The first consignment of 90,000 ORS packets reached the Rajasthan Police Academy on Monday and is being unloaded for onward dispatch to training centres. A second batch of around 90,000 packets is expected on Tuesday, with additional supplies to follow over the next five to seven days.

With temperatures across parts of Rajasthan hovering between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius, Chaudhary said the headquarters’ initiative was a strong step for the health protection of personnel and a “cooling spell of relief” for those on duty.
