Rajasthan Police move courts to seize criminals’ illegal assets worth over Rs 220 crore; Rs 32 crore already seized

Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have identified illegal properties worth more than Rs 220 crore amassed by 636 criminals across the state through criminal activities and have initiated legal proceedings in courts for their seizure and attachment under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma said on Thursday. Properties worth around Rs 32 crore have already been seized in 13 cases on court orders, including a single case in Bundi district in which property worth about Rs 12 crore was seized.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that under the government’s zero-tolerance policy against crime and the mafia network, criminals in Rajasthan will not only go to jail but will also lose the illegal properties built from their ill-gotten earnings. The police action on the economic front against criminals and mafias has been launched on the chief minister’s directions.

The DGP said police have prepared a list of 636 hardcore criminals across the state who have built empires worth crores through crime. Along with identifying their movable and immovable properties, police have filed applications (istagasas) in 584 cases in various courts seeking seizure of these assets, and courts have so far issued notices in 182 cases.

Action has also been taken to demolish properties acquired illegally through organised crime, in coordination with the departments and bodies concerned. Between January 1 and May 28 this year, 39 demolition actions were carried out in the state, razing properties worth an estimated Rs 35.10 crore. Jhalawar district carried out the highest number of actions in 2026 — 12 demolitions involving illegal properties estimated at Rs 22.90 crore.

The DGP said a tight grip is also being maintained on drug trafficking with the objective of making the state drug-free, for which the state government has constituted the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). Under the campaign, the ANTF and police have made effective use of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. Between January and April 2026, applications were filed against 36 smugglers, of which applications against 28 drug traffickers were accepted for seizing and freezing of illegally acquired assets, under which properties worth an estimated Rs 33 crore were seized and frozen. Such action will continue, the DGP said, to break the economic backbone of criminals and establish effective control over crime and the illegal drug trade.

Section 107 of the BNSS, which came into force in July 2024, is the main basis of the entire exercise — its objective being not merely to send criminals to jail but to end their economic power. The police headquarters has issued an SOP to all districts to ensure strict action on the ground.

The DGP said the benefit of the seized properties will now also reach victims. As per the provisions, seized properties can be returned to victims through the district collector, providing relief to citizens who fell prey to exploitation by mafias. Action is under way in this direction as well, he said.
