Jaipur: Rajasthan Police’s Cyber Crime Branch has issued a public advisory urging citizens to use the Chakshu portal — part of the central government’s Sanchar Saathi application — to report suspicious calls and messages before they result in financial loss. The advisory, issued from Jaipur on April 7, is part of an ongoing awareness campaign by the branch to curb rising cyber crime across the state.

DIG Police Cyber Crime Shantanu Kumar Singh highlighted the portal’s most significant capability: Chakshu does not merely deactivate the mobile number used to carry out a fraud, but also blacklists the IMEI number of the handset involved. This means that even if a criminal removes the SIM and replaces it with a new one, the phone itself remains blocked and cannot be used to target anyone again — a step that directly disrupts the tools of repeat offenders.

To file a report on the Chakshu portal, citizens are required to provide the medium through which the suspicious contact was made — whether a phone call, SMS, or WhatsApp message — along with the date and time of the incident and a screenshot of the suspicious communication.

The advisory identifies several categories of fraud that citizens should report on Chakshu immediately. These include calls made in the name of courier companies asking for personal details, and requests for KYC updates used as a pretext to extract sensitive information. Threats of digital arrest — where fraudsters pose as police officers, CBI officials, RBI representatives, or customs officers to coerce or intimidate victims — should also be reported. Suspicious job offers and missed calls from foreign numbers carrying country codes such as +92, +84, or +62 are similarly flagged as reportable on the portal.

Rajasthan Police has provided a clear guide on which platform to use depending on the situation. If a person has received a suspicious call or message but has not yet suffered any financial loss, the Chakshu portal is the right destination — a report there can result in the number and handset being blocked before any harm is done. If money has already been debited from a bank account, citizens should call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 without delay and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in, so that the transferred amount can be frozen. For a lost or stolen mobile phone, the CEIR portal within Sanchar Saathi should be used to block or track the device.

The Cyber Crime Branch has appealed to citizens to stay alert and make use of these platforms whenever they encounter suspicious activity. Those needing immediate assistance can contact their nearest cyber police station, call the helpline at 1930, or reach the cyber helpdesk at 9256001930 or 9257510100.
