Jaipur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted its national executive meet on Monday in New Delhi. This was done keeping in mind the 2019 election as well as to highlight the government’s achievements. While the meet ended with a lot of optimism as far as national politics are concerned, the same cannot be said about the BJP-led government in Rajasthan. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s worries seem to have increased after the results of the recently held by-elections of Panchayati Raj were announced on Tuesday.
In the election conducted for 26 seats Panchayat Raj institutions in Rajasthan, the BJP and the opposition Congress have won 12 seats each while an independent candidate was declared winner unopposed in the polls. The result of the Panchayat Samiti of Gadraroad in Barmer district is still not declared as confirmed by a state election commission spokesperson.
In certain districts where this election was held, the BJP was considered dominant however these results have come as a bit of an eye-opener for the party members. Keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, the party must have realized the gravity of the task ahead.
On the other hand, Congress must be relieved after this impressive show. Although the results cannot be considered a great achievement for the Congress, the fact that the party has finally made some mark after a dull period must be pleasing for its leaders. The party was routed in the last state election having failed to win a single seat.
The state is set to witness three crucial by-polls in near future and both parties will be looking a make a mark in these. While Alwar and Ajmer seats will be up for grabs in the Lok Sabha bypolls, the Mandalgarh constituency in Bhilwara district will be contested in the assembly bypolls.
The rising costs in the state are an issue that needs immediate attention of the ruling party. The farmers’ protests have given Congress a chance to make a statement ahead of these crucial bypolls. Today Jaipur witnessed protests held by activists of Youth Congress under the leadership of Sachin Pilot. BJP will have to come up with answers soon to resolve the issue to ensure it doesn’t face any more surprises in these upcoming by-elections.
