Jaipur: Khatu Shyam Ji Temple in Sikar is set to undergo a major transformation as the Rajasthan government pushes for rapid development under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. A total of Rs 87 crore, approved by the central government, will be used for the temple’s comprehensive development, beautification, and better facilities for pilgrims.

These decisions were taken during a high-level review meeting held at Tourism Bhawan on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari in the presence of Tourism Secretary Ravi Jain.

The Deputy CM directed officials to begin the development work at the earliest and proposed that the next review meeting be held at the temple site itself to closely monitor planning and execution. Emphasizing Khatu Shyam Ji’s importance as a religious hub, she called for focused efforts to enhance its infrastructure and surroundings while preserving its spiritual and cultural significance.

The planned improvements include better sanitation, lighting, and signage for pilgrims, along with beautification of the temple premises and surrounding areas. The site will also be integrated into the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 religious tourism circuit, and officials have been asked to follow sustainable tourism practices to maintain the sanctity and heritage of the temple.

During the same meeting, Diya Kumari also reviewed progress on other key tourism projects. She instructed that preservation of Shekhawati havelis be prioritized and directed that renovation work at the Albert Hall Museum be completed as per the approved plan. She also stressed timely completion of the War Museum near the border, calling it an important step towards boosting border tourism with a thoughtful and strategic approach.

The Deputy CM also discussed restoration work on stepwells, virtual reality experiences planned at Jantar Mantar, upcoming initiatives for desert tourism, and preparations for the Great Indian Travel Bazaar.

The renewed push for Khatu Shyam Ji’s development is part of the state government’s broader vision to establish Rajasthan as a leading destination for religious and heritage tourism.
