Rajasthan government to vaccinate 10 lakh people in a day tomorrow

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has set a target of vaccinating at least10 lakh people in a day on Friday. The mega vaccination drive will be launched as the state received 8.5 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses on Wednesday. The preference will be given to people in the 18-44 age group, officials said.
Nearly 57 lakh people in the 18-44 age group have been vaccinated so far. The total population in this age group is 3.25 crore. As the fear of the third Covid-19 wave looms large, the government wants to vaccinate as many people in this age group as possible. Over 2.60 lakh people in the 18-44 age group were vaccinated on Wednesday.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot recently said that the state was running of vaccines and if the union government didn’t keep the supply up, many vaccination centres would have no doses left for vaccination.
The Rajasthan government has been promised a quota of 65.20 lakh in July, but the medical and health minister Dr Raghu said that it was inadequate. The state would need at least 1.5 crore doses as many people would be due for their second dose next month.
The Rajasthan government is expected to receive another batch of vaccines late on Thursday.
“We have administered 2.24 crore vaccine doses so far in the state. This has made Rajasthan a leading state in terms of vaccination rate in the country. As the third wave of Covid-19 looms large, we want to vaccinate as many people as possible,” said a senior officer.
