Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has declared a public holiday on Parshuram Jayanti on April 18. Many Hindu organizations have welcomed the government’s announcement and said that many Hindu families celebrate this occasion, so the government has taken the right decision by declaring it a public holiday.

The government had declared a total of 27 public holidays and 22 optional holidays for 2018. Parshuram Jayanti was in the list of optional holidays. Mahaveer Jayanti, Dr Bheemrav Ambedkar Jayanti, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Gurunanak Jayanti were included in the public holiday category. Now Parshuram Jayanti has also been declared as a public holiday.

Hindu organizations said that Parshuram was a prominent religious figure. Declaring a holiday on this day will give people an opportunity to celebrate it. Many, however, believes that it is a political move. Parashuram was a Brahmin. The community had staged a voluntary bandh recently. In the election year, the state government wants to please the community that is opposing reservation in government jobs.

There was a mixed response to Bharat Bandh in Jaipur on April 10. While no protest rallies were organized, traders voluntarily kept their shops and markets closed. The cops had stopped mobile internet services to prevent the spread of rumours on social media.
