Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra: Farmers clash with police in Sriganganagar

Nine farmers were among those taken into custody for protesting and creating ruckus during Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra at Padampur Tehsil in Ganganagar district on Friday. The protestors gathered a place near Padampur before the chariot of CM Raje arrived there.

Jaipur: Nine farmers were among those taken into custody for protesting and creating ruckus during Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra at Padampur in Sriganganagar district on Friday. The protestors gathered at a place near Padampur before the chariot of CM Raje arrived there and started pelting stones at police.

Police resorted to lathicharge and fired plastic bullets to disperse the protestors from the area. Some farmers were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Police arrested coordinator of Ganganagar Kisan Samiti Ranjeet Singh Raju and head of state Congress committee Purthipal Singh Sandhu with nine other farmers for creating ruckus before the CM Raje’s tour at Padampur.

According to police, more than 300 farmers of Ganganagar region gathered under on the banner of Ganganagar Kisan Samiti in the protest of CM Raje Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra. Protestors’ pelted stones at police. To disperse the crowd, police lathicharged and air fired. Some farmers got injured during the act and were rushed to hospital in Padampur. CI Narendra Poonia was also injured during stone pelting and was admitted to hospital.

CM Raje was supposed to take out her tour on her chariot from this area after addressing the crowd at Padampur in the evening.

Earlier, two cases of stone pelting were reported in protest of Gaurav Yatra and several were arrested.
