Jaipur: A total of 59 people have been killed while several families have been displaced in floods caused by heavy rains this monsoon season. The fact came to light in a meeting of disaster management officials. The meeting was presided over by minister, disaster management Gulab Chand Kataria.
Kataria said that normal life in nearly 1290 villages in Barmer, Pali, Sirohi and Jalore was affected due to heavy rains.
59 people were killed in the floods. The government has provided financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the family members of 42 victims. Financial assistance of nearly Rs 1.68 crore has been provided.
People who have been displaced are being given a cash assistance of Rs 3,800.
The officials said that nearly 20 houses were damaged and three people were killed in the lightening.
A total 24 rescue camps have been set up in affected districts, giving shelter to 1514 people. In the four affected districts, heavy rains damaged 4614 houses completely, while 5518 others partially. These families will also be provided government assistance as per the National Disaster Relief Fund guidelines.
A total of 1309 people were rescued after they got stranded in floods.
