JAIPUR: Rahul Gandhi’s appeal to vote for the Congress party in the Rajasthan Assembly elections has sparked controversy, with the BJP demanding legal action against him and a ban on his social media account.

The BJP has filed a complaint with the Rajasthan Election Department, alleging that Gandhi’s appeal violates the code of conduct and seeking a case against him for violating the Representation of the People Act 1951.

Gandhi made the appeal on his social media account on Saturday, November 25, urging voters to support Congress in the elections. However, the BJP argues that as a star campaigner for Congress, Gandhi’s appeal during the 48-hour silent period before the polls is a clear violation of the law. The party claims that Gandhi’s post was seen by over 2.30 lakh people by 10:35 am, constituting public publicity during the silent period.

The BJP also alleges that Gandhi attempted to woo voters by promising free schemes, which is legally wrong and an attempt to influence voters in a wrong way. The party has further accused Gandhi of violating the code of conduct by attempting to mobilize voters on caste lines by promising a caste census.
