Rajasthan: Ambulance strike called off

The association representatives said that the officials have assured them of looking into their demands. Keeping in view the problems that patients will face, they have decided to call off the strike.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Ambulance Employees Union has called off their strike that was scheduled from February 21 in Rajasthan. The decision was taken after a meeting with senior health department officials.

The association representatives said that the officials have assured them of looking into their demands. Keeping in view the problems that patients will face, they have decided to call off the strike.

However, they warned that if the government didn’t take any action, they would launch a protest soon.
The services of integrated ambulance 108 and 104 were to come to a standstill during the strike from Thursday. Around 1500 ambulance were to go on strike. Of them, 730 ambulances were associated with 108 service and 580 with 104 service. Over 200 others were general ambulance.

Ambulance employee’s union state president Virendra Singh Shekhawat, the meeting with officials went on for four hours.

“The officials assured us that their demands would be sent to a cabinet committee for consideration,” he said.

According to the demands of ambulance employees, the contractual practice should be eliminated. The equal pay scale laws should be applied and the duties of all the ambulance employees should be fixed for 8 hours. Also, compensation of Rs 20 lakh should be given to the employee if any kind of accident/death happens during the duty.
