Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested station house officer (SHO) of Laxmangarh police station in Sikar for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh through his middleman. The officer was demanding money to remove the name of an accused from an FIR registered in connection with a case of abatement to suicide.

The accused officer, Hoshiyar Singh, is a resident of Rajgarh in Churu and was deputed as SHO in Laxmangarh police station. He is a sub-inspector.

On August 11, a man, identified as Kamal Kumar, hanged himself. His family members registered an FIR against some people including Ramniwas and Dharmapal for causing Kamal to take the extreme step.

Both approached ACB complaining that Hoshiyar Singh was demanding Rs 2 lakh to remove their names from the FIR. A trap was laid. SHO’s middleman Mohammed Farooq allegedly negotiated and agreed to take Rs 1.50 lakh.

SHO and the middleman were arrested after they were caught taking bribe.

An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
