Raj govt to take action against mayor Somya Gurjar as SC gives its nod
Since the judicial inquiry has been completed, the government has got SC’s nod to take action against her

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government may suspend Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), Greater mayor Somya Gurjar. The Supreme Court has vacated its stay and said that the government was free to take disciplinary action against her in the case of misbehaving with then JMC commissioner Yagyamitra Singh Deo.
The Supreme Court had stayed Somya Gurjar’s suspension as the judicial inquiry against her was not finished. Now that the judicial inquiry has been completed, the government has got SC’s nod to take action against her after two days.
The Supreme Court gave this order while hearing Somya’s SLP on Friday. During the hearing, the state government said that the judicial inquiry has found Somya guilty.
The court had put an interim stay on the suspension order till the report of the judicial inquiry was received. The investigation is complete, so the SLP should be dismissed, the government pleaded before the court.
On this, the Supreme Court has given two days’ time to Somya, allowing the state government to take action after this period.
Somya and three councillors were found guilty in judicial inquiry: The Supreme Court, by an order on February 1, 2022, had granted an interim stay on the suspension order issued by the Rajasthan government. After this order of the Supreme Court, Somya assumed the mayor’s office again.
Meanwhile, in the judicial inquiry on August 10, Somya and three councillors Ajay Singh Chauhan, Shankar Sharma and Paras Jain were booked under section 39(1) (d) of the Municipality Act, including other provisions and misconduct, negligence in the performance of duties and indecency.
