Poornima University, Yi Yuva organise symposium on International Youth Day

The theme of the symposium was “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages and Building a Robust Community by Preventing Climate Change”.

Youth Day Poornima

An international symposium organised by Poornima University in Jaipur.

JAIPUR: Poornima University (PU), Jaipur in association with Yi Yuva organized an International Symposium to have a dialogue on the occasion of International Youth Day.

The theme of the symposium was “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages and Building a Robust Community by Preventing Climate Change”.

The interactive sessions were held offline as well as online. The speakers for the offline event were Dr Mamatha Lala, senior paediatrician from Mumbai; Julia Baribeau, a student from Canada and Omprakash Gurjar, founder of Poornima Pathshala, Jaipur.

The online session was addressed by Dr Ayush Bhandari, assistant professor, Imperial College London; Dr Piotr Mikosik from Poland; Dr Mamtha Lala; Julia and a panel from FXB (Karina Weinstein, Mohammad Bachir, Nomvuselelo and Tahmina).

Dr Mamtha Lala shared the experience of her six months expedition to Antarctica. She motivated students to be more acceptable and face challenges in life. Julia shared her student experiences and details about what inspired her to travel from Canada to Barefoot College, Tilonia. Omprakash Gurjar’s life journey has not been less than inspirational. He defeated the norms, fought for his basic needs and is today working relentlessly for the upliftment of the marginalized and poor.

Ayush Bhandari in his talk on ‘Escaping the Rat Race’ motivated students to believe in themselves and not get trapped in convention, stereotypes and comparison. His message resonated amongst the student community as they have to fight pressure from society regularly.

Karina and her panel highlighted the importance of youth initiatives in preventing climate change. Her panellists shared their respective research and alternatives to contribute their bit to the campaign. Dr Piotr shared with the students the similarity of challenges posed to them across the globe.

The Symposium convener Dr Sudhi Rajiv motivated students to understand the importance of such events and their contribution to bringing positive change in society. Dr Suresh Padhy, President – Poornima University (PU); Dr Manoj Gupta, Pro President PU and Dr Chandni Kirpalani, Registrar PU congratulated all the participants for highlighting the importance of the role of youth in contributing to the achievement of the SDGs of the UN.

Gaurav Bansal, Chair –Yi Yuva, Jaipur and Rahul Singhi, Director- Poornima Group emphasized the importance of bridging the gap amongst generations. Both assured to contribute in different capacities to achieve this goal. The program was anchored by Dr Swati Gokhru and a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Mehr Chand from MTTF & Dr Priyanka Yadav from Poornima University.
