Police raid 4 illegal hookah bars in Jaipur; 8 arrested

When the police raided these hotels and bars, youths in large numbers were found smoking hookah which are banned in the state.

JAIPUR: A Jaipur police commissionerate team raided four illegal hookah bars in Jaipur and arrested eight people in this connection under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA), 2003. As many as 31 youths were arrested for breach of peace and 65 people including girls were booked under the COPTA Act. Those arrested include eight owners and managers of the illegal hookah bars.

When the police raided these hotels and bars, youths in large numbers were found smoking hookah which are banned in the state.

The police seized 65 hookahs, 131 pipes, 79 chilams, 107 flavor packets and 4 DJ systems

Additional commissioner Ajaypal Lamba said that the police commissionerate had been receiving complaints regarding illegal hookah bars for a while.

Police teams were formed under the supervision of Additional DCP Sulesh Chaudhary and Inspector Khaleel Ahmed. The teams conducted a recce and raided the hotel bar on Bhagwandas Road in Ashok Nagar area on Thursday night. The police seized seven hookahs, flavours, pipes and music systems from the spot. Police arrested 18 youths and 12 girls on charges of disturbing the peace.

Police raided the Glass House bar operated in Hotel Jaipur Central in Sindhi Camp area. Agra resident supervisor Satish Sharma and Malviya Nagar resident Ashish Meena were arrested. The team seized 19 hookahs, pipes, cheelams, flavor packets, music systems, mics, and headphones. The action was taken against 55 people under the COTPA Act.

Namokar Jain, resident of Sansar Chandra Road and Lokesh Sharma, resident of New Colony Jhotwara were arrested from Deona Restaurant and Kitchen Bar on Ajmer Road in Shyam Nagar area. The police Seized 8 big hookahs, 27 small hookahs, 42 chilams, 97 pipes, 78 flavor packets, laptops, music systems etc. The action was taken against 12 people under the COTPA Act.

Sonu Rawat, a resident of Uttarakhand, was arrested from the Ten 11 Lounge and Bar operated at Gold Sukh Mall in the airport area. Four hookahs, cheelams, flavor packets, pipes, etc., were confiscated. Director Shyam Nagar resident Rajendra was arrested for playing music in loud voice. The music system was also confiscated.
