Jaipur: Police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal instructed all police stations to ensure that liquor shops shut down by 8 pm and didn’t sell liquor after the closing time in the city. Agarwal was addressing police officials after a crime analysis meeting held at Rajasthan Police Academy on Sunday.

Police and excise department have recently faced flak for failure to ensure closing of liquor shops by 8 pm. Many protests have taken place in the city recently amid reports that liquor shops were selling liquor illegally after the stipulated closing time of 8 pm.

Many liquor shop owners provide liquor after the closing time and charge extra money on top of the liquor’s retail price.

Agarwal said that an action plan should be put in place to finish investigation in unsolved crimes.

Additional commissioner of police Prafulla Kumar gave a presentation of comparative crime stats in various police station areas and discussed ways to bring them down.

Senior officials instructed station house officers and beat constables to coordinate with senior citizens with the help of Senior Citizen App introduced by the police commissionerate. Agarwal said that ensuring protection to senior citizens should be a top priority.
