JAIPUR: The tourism season typically starts in September in Jaipur, yet Jaipur Airport hasn’t seen the expected increase in travelers even by October. This October, the airport reported the lowest passenger load in the past seven months, falling behind expectations.

Tour and travel experts are surprised by this decline, especially since the city is entering its peak tourist season. Historically, passenger numbers at Jaipur Airport have risen from September, with a significant boost in October. However, this year tells a different story, with a notable drop in October’s passenger load, pushing Jaipur Airport down to the 13th position in India’s busiest airports list. Previously, it held the 11th spot.

Comparing pre-Covid times, Jaipur Airport used to surpass Lucknow and Guwahati in passenger and flight movements. But in the last four years, it hasn’t managed to outperform these airports.

A look at Jaipur Airport’s passenger load over recent months reveals a fluctuating trend:

  • 428,000 passengers in April.
  • An increase to 454,000 in May.
  • A decrease to 433,000 in June.
  • Further drop to 420,000 in July and roughly 426,000 in August.
  • Down to 415,000 in September.
  • A significant fall to just 409,000 in October.

October’s top 15 Indian airports saw Delhi at the forefront, followed by Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Pune, and Goa rounding out the top 10. Guwahati and Lucknow preceded Jaipur, with Bhubaneswar and Trivandrum completing the list.
