Panthers kill 2 women in Sawai Madhopur

Jaipur: Three panthers attacked two women and killed them near their village in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan on Saturday. The women had gone to graze goats near Banas River when the incident happened. As the news spread in the area, the villagers rushed to the spot. A huge crowd of locals gathered there. The forest department has launched an investigation into the matter and said that the details of the incident, narrated by the eye-witnesses – were being verified.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the two women, identified as Shanti Devi and Rajanti Devi were grazing goats near Banas River. Three panthers suddenly attacked them. Shanti Devi had wound marks on her neck and eyes, while Rajanti Devi was attacked on her neck. Both died on the spot.

Some other villagers who were grazing goats nearby witnessed the incident and rushed to the village to inform the locals. The local residents came to the spot to rescue the women, but it was too late by then. Some local public representatives informed the police following which a police team also arrived there and took the bodies to a nearby hospitals. The doctors declared the women dead on arrival.

There were pugmarks of panthers near the spot where the victims were attacked. The locals demanded compensation for the families of the women. Senior administration officers placated them following which a postmortem examination of the bodies was conducted.
