‘Operation Romeo’ in Bassi: 50 youths taken into custody for harassing girls

Jaipur: Bassi police in Jaipur took into custody over 50 youths found harassing and passing improper remarks to girls at educational insinuates in the police station area including the girls college and schools and coaching institutes. The police officials said that they were getting complaints of eve-teasing and harassment with girls for the past days. After a meeting with the administrative officials of various educational institutes in the area, the “Operation Romeo” was organized to crack down on such incidents.
Bassi SHO Shivkumar Bhardwaj said that the police had made all necessary preparations and planned to carry out the operation in a planned manner on Saturday. Eight police teams were constituted. The policemen were in civil dresses. They took into custody all youths who were found passing remarks or harassing girls outside educational institutes. The police teams encouraged the nearby shopkeepers to share information about such anti-social elements with the police, so that the operation can be carried out on a regular basis.
“We had already held meetings with the officials of these educational institutes after receiving complaints of eve-teasing and harassments. After verifying these complaints, we launched a crackdown,” said a police officer adding that the drive will continue over the next few months.
