Jaipur: The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to open hostels for students taking coaching in medical and engineering in Jaipur and Kota. Each city will get 5 hostels that can accommodate about 100 students. On completion of the 4th year of the state government, Social and Justice Minister Arun Chaturvedi counted the achievements of the department and made this announcement.

Chaturvedi stated that applications will be invited from the students and admission will be given on priority basis. Until the buildings are built, students will be provided accommodation in other hostels or rental buildings of the department. He said that in the last four years, Rs 23,816 crores were spent on social security schemes whereas the previous Congress government had spent only Rs 6,135 crore in 5 years.

Chaturvedi also said that students in about 220 departmental hostels that are more than 2 km away from the school will be given bicycles to go to school. With the view of monitoring the progress of these students and helping them improve, a meeting with their parents will be held once every three months. Thus far, the Department has given scholarships of Rs 2000 crores to 20.42 lakh students of ST, SC, and OBC.
