Jaipur: The plying of heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks will be completely banned on two different days next week. The ban is being imposed for preparations for the Republic Day which will be celebrated on January 26.
The ban will be imposed on January 22 and January 25 from 12 midnight to 12 noon the next day. The Republic Day function will be held in New Delhi on January 26. A rehearsal for the function will be organized on January 23. The decision to ban plying of heavy commercial vehicles has been taken for January 22 and January 25 to ensure that the rehearsal and the function take place smoothly.
The decision was taken in a meeting which was attended by the officials from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan police. Delhi police commissioner also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, security has been stepped at Jaipur airport, railway station, bus stand and other public places in Jaipur ahead of the Republic Day.
Sources said that intelligence agencies and Rajasthan ATS has been put on high alert. Police teams are keeping a close eye on suspicious activities in the crowded markets in the city.
