Jaipur: Patients and their wards won’t need to pay any fee for parking their vehicles outside government hospitals in the city including SMS Hospital and Jaipuria Hospital. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) decided to make hospitals parking free. The decision was taken in a meeting of JMC license committee on Thursday.

Thousands of people from Jaipur as well as other cities and states visit government hospitals for medical consultation and treatment. Until now, they had to pay parking fee for parking their vehicles outside these government hospitals. It was a big financial burden particularly for the family members of those admitted to SMS Hospital for treatment.

“People have to visit frequently to attend their family members and friends admitted to SMS Hospital and other government hospitals in the city. They are charged a parking fee every time they visit these hospitals. It becomes a financial burden. We have decided to make parking free for patients and their family members,” said a senior JMC official.

He added that the licence committee also decided to rein on the practice of woods being sold at a price higher than the market price at funeral homes in the city.

“We have been receiving complaints that people are charged exorbitantly for woods at some funeral homes in the city. We have constituted teams which will carry out surprise checks and action would be taken against funeral homes which charge more money than the market rate,” the officer said.
