Jaipur: The Sodala police on Friday arrested physical training instructor (PTI) Geo Varghese of St Xavier’s School in Nevta in connection with the case of suicide by a 14-year-old student Nitant Raj Lata. The family members had accused the PTI of harassing and insulting Nitant. The school administration, however, said it was unlikely that any harassment by the PTI may have caused the student to take the extreme step. They said that a committee is probing the matter and further action will be taken after receiving its report.

Sodala police station SHO Sunil Prasad Sharma said that the PTI has been booked for inciting the student to commit suicide based on the complaint filed by the family members and the suicide note left by the victim.

Nitant had hanged himself from the ceiling of his study room in his house in Krishna Colony in Sodala on the intervening night of April 25 and April 26. His family members registered an FIR four days after the incident after they found a suicide note from his room, mentioning the name of the PTI and words such as “Needed Justice”.

The victim argued that he taught students of up to Class 5, while Nitant was studying in Class 9. He hardly knew Nitant, so it was not possible for him to haras him. He might have asked Nitant to return to his class in case he was found wandering on the grounds.

The school had suspended the PTI and formed a six-member committee to investigate the allegations against him.

The police officials said that further investigation is going on.
