Jaipur: The Director of NIMS University of Rajasthan, Dr. Anurag Tomar, was arrested on Wednesday in an embezzlement case of about Rs 40 lakhs. He was detained for interrogation by Chandwaji police station for allegations of personal use of funds belonging to Indian Medical Trust NIMS University. University’s chairman and Anurag’s father Dr. BS Tomar had filed this lawsuit.
According to Govindgarh deputy Deepak Sharma of Rajasthan Police, the case was registered against Anurag in May 2017. In this case, he has been accused of spending trust’s funds on a farmhouse. Following the investigation, Anurag was arrested.
Just one day prior to the arrest of Anurag, Dr. BS Tomar’s wife, Shobha Tomar also filed a report against some doctors and staff of NIMS in the same police station. She also protested against the arrest of her son Anurag. This clearly indicates that the family dispute had escalated in recent times.
Rajasthan Government has been accused of suppressing charges of rape against DR BS Tomar. A day before Anurag’s arrest, these allegations were made by the All India Corruption Prevention and Human Rights Institute in a press conference in Jaipur. According to the institute, there is a conspiracy to suppress serious criminal cases like rape and sexual harassment of female workers, against the chairman of NIMU. Recently few ministers of the State Government and the Chairman of Rajasthan Women’s Commission were honored with the degrees of a doctorate from NIMS University.
