Jaipur: The state capital reported 295 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The fact that the city is reporting less than 300 cases a day for the past two days has come as a big relief for the government. The number of cases had gone beyond 700 a day recently, forcing the government to take many stringent steps including night curfew.

Doctors said that these steps have proved successful as the number of cases for the two consecutive days has reduced to less than 300 a day.

The Rajasthan government had recently imposed night curfew. As per the curfew guidelines, all the commercial establishments were asked to close down by 7 pm. The people were asked not to venture out of their homes between 8 pm and 6 am.

“Municipal elections and festivities including Diwali had caused the virus spread to rise at an alarming rate in November and early December. The state government imposed the night curfew and took several other measures to curb the spread. These measures have been successful,” said a senior health department officer.

The police also cracked down on people who violated social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines. Thousands of people were fined in Jaipur alone for not wearing masks and following social distancing requirements. The police also ensured that the night curfew was imposed strictly.
