NGT stay on opening of new red and orange category industries in 4 cities of Rajasthan

Jaipur: Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pali and Bhiwadi of Rajasthan are among the 100 cities where National Green Tribunal has put a stay on the opening of new industries in red and green categories. The stay has been enforced keeping in view the increase in pollution in these areas at an alarming rate. The stay will not be applicable to the industries in green and white categories.

The Central Pollution Control Board had carried out a survey of pollution level in the country. The pollution level was found to be alarming in 100 cities including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pali and Bhiwadi of Rajasthan.

NGT said that the businesses can’t operate at the expense of environment. The agency instructed the pollution control boards of the states to take action against industries which are spreading pollution.

Big hotels, chemical automobile production, hazardous waste recycle, oil and gas production, lead acid battery production, power production plants, milk processing and dairy products, paper bleaching, thermal power plants and slaughter houses fall in the red category.

Printing press, stone crashers, transformer repair, hot mix plants and new highway construction projects and grill manufacturing fall in the orange category.
