New rates for Ram Niwas Bagh (Garden) underground parking in Jaipur announced

Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has decided to increase the rates for underground parking at Ram Niwas Bagh (Garden) in Jaipur. People who park their cars for 24-hrs in the basement of Ram Niwas Garden will be charged Rs 4000 per month. The new charges will be applied from January 1, 2019.

The parking rates for Ramniwas are Rs 25 for two hours and it will be Rs 4000 per month from January. People who want to park their cars from morning to evening, the charges for them will be Rs 1500 per month.

The local trader’s association and residents of the Walled City have started protesting against the JDA’s decision to increase the rates.

According to local traders and residents, the parking charges were Rs 1500 per month before and the sudden hike in charges is not financially viable for most car owners who park their car at Ramniwas garden underground parking. The parking of vehicles was prohibited in the Walled City in 2013. JDA promised parking facility at the minimum fee for local residents and traders at Ram Niwas Bagh.

JDA argued that the Ramniwas parking is not for the traders and residents’ personal use. They have given their personal garages on rent in the city and are parking their vehicles at Rs 1500 per month in Ram Niwas.

‘Some people park their cars in the basement for the whole day due to which regular traders suffer difficulties. The new rates are Rs 4000 per month for people who park their cars for 24 hours in the area. Our purpose is to facilitate parking for the traders who come daily. There is no increase in the rates for them’, added JDA officials.
