Jaipur: The delay continues to mar the progress of work on the Sodala Elevated Road connecting Sodala and Bias Godam and Ambedkar Circle. It may take the company involved in the construction of the road another one year to complete the project. The JDA officials believe that the project will be completed by September 2020. The JDA issued a notice to the company warning it against any further delays. The officials said that more penalties will be imposed and the firm can even be blacklisted if the project was not completed by the new deadline.

A penalty of about Rs 1.87 crore has already been imposed on the firm. The JDA officials believe that the firm is not able to keep up with the deadlines due to weak financial situation. UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal had recently instructed the JDA officials to ensure the speedy work on the project.

The project will ease traffic load on the road connecting Sodala with Ambedkar Circle. Frequent traffic congestions are reported at Tilak Marg Junction, Bais Godam Circle, Railway Crossing, Civil Lines Circle, Nandpuri Tiraha, Chambal Power House Tiraha and Sodala Junction during peak hours.

Earlier the deadline to complete the project was January 2019. It was extended to June 2020 due to the delays but it seems the project will now be completed by the end of next year.

The project will cost the government Rs 210 crore.

“About Rs 160 crore have been spent. The company involved in the work had been instructed to complete works worth Rs 6 crore per month, but the progress has slowed down in the past 3-4 months due to the firm’s weak financial situation. We have issued a notice and warned of more penalties if there are any more delays,” said a senior JDA officer.
