Nahargarh Biological Park history
There was dense forest where the park is located. It was so secluded that tigers used to roam the area. But as the population in the nearby area increased, the tiger population dwindled. In order to protect the forest area, the government declared it a wildlife sanctuary in 1980.
The area was turned into a park in 2016. Nahargarh Biological Park was inaugurated in March, 2016 by then chief minister Vashundrara Raje. It took the authorities nearly three years to complete the project. The all the wild animals and birds that were the attraction of Jaipur Zoo were shifted to Nahargarh Biological Park. The Zoo located at Rambagh Circle was closed down following the shift. The reason for relocation was that Rambargh had become very crowded as it is located in the centre of the city and the pollution was adversely affecting the animals. Nahargarh Biological Park is located in a protected wildlife area.
The special attraction of the Nahargarh Biological Park is the Asiatic lion and the white panther, currently the park hosts 23 lions and 12 tigers.
