Nagaur: 3 IT officials, 1 CA in CBI custody for taking bribe

Jaipur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody four officials of Income Tax department and a charted accountant (CA) in Nagaur for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. The IT department had carried out a survey at the commercial establishments of two businessmen. The IT officials were allegedly pressurizing the businessmen to pay a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. Further investigation is going on.

The IT survey was carried out on March 5 and March 6. The department allegedly found undisclosed assets worth Rs 3 crore. Sources said that the officials offered to show a reduced amount of undisclosed assets and demanded Rs 20 lakh as bribe for this. The role of a CA also surfaced during investigation.

One of the businessmen who was being harassed by the IT officials approached the CBI and lodged a complaint. The CBI then took into custody three officials and the CA for interrogation. It was yet unclear whether the officials were caught red-handed taking the bribe. Searches were going on at the house and other residents belonging to the officials, sources said. The trap was laid in a  discreet manner.
