JAIPUR: A girl student was stabbed to death in broad daylight at the Eklavya Academy Classes for Library Center in Manoharpur in Shahpura, approximately 65 km from the Jaipur district headquarters.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Shobha Chaudhary from Arnia village, while the attacker, Sunil Bagdi alias Surendra Meena, 25, of Gathwadi is currently under treatment after consuming poison following the crime.
According to the students at the coaching center, Chaudhary and Bagdi had met at the center and grown close. Recently, Chaudhary had been unable to attend coaching sessions for ten days, as she was helping her father with crop harvesting. Bagdi, reportedly, was persistently calling her during this time. To avoid suspicion from her family, Chaudhary blocked Bagdi’s number.
On March 21, Bagdi contacted one of Chaudhary’s friends, urging them to help him speak to her. The friend refused to get involved. Chaudhary arrived at the coaching center with her maternal uncle around 10 am on Saturday. She went upstairs to retrieve a file, while her uncle waited below. Unknown to them, Bagdi was already on the terrace.
Within minutes, Chaudhary’s screams were heard as Bagdi attacked her with a knife. She was rushed to the Community Health Center where doctors determined her condition to be critical and referred her to NIMS. Unfortunately, Chaudhary succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Chaudhary was preparing for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) and Bagdi frequented the library for study. After the attack, Bagdi fled the scene by jumping off the terrace.
Chaudhary did not attend her classes on Saturday morning, which started at 7:30 am. Instead, she went directly to the terrace upon arrival. Bagdi had been at the academy since 8:30 am that day, repeatedly going up and down the stairs.
Following the stabbing, the attacker, Sunil Bagdi, attempted suicide by consuming poison. Bagdi returned to his residence in Gathwadi, Raisar, a rural area in Jaipur, after the incident and ingested the toxic substance. He is currently receiving treatment at NIMS Hospital.
The police were informed about the attack around 10:30 am, and the investigation is ongoing.
