Jaipur: Mobile internet services were restored in 15 police station areas of Jaipur on Saturday, almost five days after they were suspended following communal clashes between the people of two communities. The tension is still palpable in these areas and the streets are still wearing a deserted look as people are not venturing out of their homes. Heavy police force is patrolling the Walled City markets and residential colonies to keep an eye on the law and order situation.

Sources said that the police are studying the CCTV footages to identify the anti-social elements who triggered the communal tension in the area. They will be arrested. Nearly 140 people have already been arrested for disrupting peace and harmony.

“The interest services have resumed since Friday midnight. We had earlier decided to continue with the ban on the internet till Saturday midnight, but we decided to lift it a day earlier as there was no untoward incident. The people would be able to call their relatives during the festivities,” said a senior administration officer.

Nearly 20 teams of police and administration officers are holding meetings with the local residents and community leaders, appealing for peace and harmony.

The tension was triggered a week ago when some people attacked the people from another community. The clashes were also reported on Monday. The tension however further escalated on Tuesday as there were reports of people hurling stones on a religious place in Galta Gate area. The police clamped section 144 of CrPC banning gathering of five or more people.
