Jaipur: A 21-year-old student of Malviya Nagar Institute of Technology (MNIT) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room on the institute premises. His body was found hanging on Friday. The police didn’t recover a suicide note, according to preliminary reports. An investigation has been launched to ascertain what caused the student to take the extreme step.

The deceased, identified as Gaurav Baheti, hailed from Karnavati Colony of Ganga Shahar town in Bikaner. He was third-year student of the Electric Branch at MNIT. He was staying in room number 303 of Aurobindo Hostel in the institute.

Gaurav was last seen alive in his hostel room around 9.30 pm. He didn’t come out till late in the morning on Friday. His hostel inmates heard his phone ringing constantly, but when he didn’t answer they got suspicious. They tried the door, but it was locked from inside. So they peeked into his room through a window and found him hanging. They somehow broke open the window and entered the room. With the help of the hostel management officials, they got him down. He was rushed to SMS Hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The family members have also arrived in Jaipur from Bikaner after the police informed them. The body has been put in the mortuary of SMS hospital for a postmortem examination.
