Mishap at wedding function claims life of 8 people in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur

Jaipur: A wedding function in Rajasathan’s Bharatpur district became a death trap for many people late on Friday. At least eight people were killed while several others were injured when the balcony of a house where a wedding ritual was being performed caved in.
Thirty people were buried under the debris. Of them, seven were killed on the spot, while one died on way to hospital.
The victims include five women and a girl child.
The incident occurred in Pidi village on Nadbadi Road in Bharatpur’s Kumher area around 10.30 pm.
The wedding of one Virendra was to take place on Saturday. A ritual, locally called ‘Chak Bhat’ was being performed a day prior to the wedding.
A huge of crowd of villagers and relatives was participating in the function.
Some people were watching the function sitting on a balcony that caved in. A wall also came down.
At least 30 people were buried under the debris.
A police team rushed to the spot, but the villagers had already started a rescue operation.
People buried under the debris were pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital.
