Jaipur: The city police have detained a 16-year-old teenager for making internet calls to over 30 women professors of the Rajasthan University and threatening them of rape. The teenager allegedly engaged in obscene talks with the professors and when they protested, he threatened them. He was taken into protective custody after a police team consisting of officials from three police stations identified him on the basis of a parcel he had booked from a Hyderabad-based company and had it shipped to one of the professors. The teenager was taken into custody from Hisar town in Haryana.

Some women professors of RU had approached Gandhi Nagar and Mahesh Nagar police stations and registered complaints when they received unsolicited calls from an identified caller. The caller had some parcels containing objectionable items delivered to the houses of the professors. The women professors informed the university administration about the calls and parcels following which a probe was launched.

Sources said that the teenager was identified on the basis of a parcel which he had booked and had it delivered to the house of a professor on July 6. When the professor refused to accept this parcel, it was returned to the company. The police received the information about the parcel and approached the company for IP address of the person who had booked the order.

The police came to know that the Wi-Fi internet of Hisar University was used for making the calls. The police identified the mobile phone used for cash-on-delivery order. The teenager who owned the phone was taken into custody and brought to Jaipur for further investigation.

The teachers organisations had approached the DGP demanding arrest of the caller.
