MiG-21 crashes in Bikaner; pilot safe

The panic gripped the area when the locals heard a blast. They spotted a parachute and informed the police control room.

Jaipur: A fighter aircraft MiG -21 of Indian Air Force crashed near Shobhasar area of Bikaner district around in Rajasthan noon on Friday. District Collector Kumar Pal Gautam confirmed the incident.

According to preliminary reports, MiG-21 aircraft was on a routine mission crashed after getting airborne from Nal near Bikaner.

The pilot of the aircraft is safe and no causalities have been reported. The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical examination after he ejected from the plan and used a parachute to land near Shobhasar.

Several teams of police and security agencies rushed to the spot where the aircraft crashed.

Police teams and IAF officials along with ambulance and fire tenders’ vehicles reached the spot. The area has been cordoned off.

Official details are yet to be received. The reason for the crash is being ascertained.

MiG-21 had been in news recently after Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman shot down Pakistan aircraft F-16. He was captured in Pakistan and returned to India a few days ago.
