Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress on Sunday declared Vivek Dhakar as the candidate for Mandalgarh bypoll, scheduled to take place on January 29.

Vivek Dhakar will fight the election against BJP’s candidate Shakti Singh Hada, the current zila pramukh of Bhilwara district.

Vivek Dhakar had been defeated by Kirti Kumari in 2003 state assembly elecitons by a margin of nearly 19,000. Many believed that Kirti Kumar managed the victory riding the Narendra Modi wave that helped BJP swept the elections across the country at the time.

Vivek Dhakar holds an LLB degree and did MBA from Panjab Technical University.

Mandalgarh assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Kirti Kumar in August. She died of swine flu at a private hospital in Jaipur.

Both BJP and Congress have declared its candidates for all the three constituencies where bypolls will take place on January 29.

BJP has fielded Jaswant Singh Yadav as its candidate for Alwar parliamentary constituency. Jaswant Singh will be pitted against Karan Singh Yadav of Congress.

In Ajmer, the fight will be between Raghu Sharma of Congress and Ramswaroop Lamba of BJP. Ramswaroop Lamba is the son of late MP Sanwar Mal Jat.
