Lok Sabha elections 2019: CM Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot likely to contest from Jodhpur

The Congress high command is in favor of fielding Vaibhav from Jodhpur. Sources said that CM Gehlot has given his node to the proposal and the official announcement might be made soon.

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot will likely contest Lok Sabha elections 2019 from Jodhpur seat.

The Congress high command is in favor of fielding Vaibhav from Jodhpur. Sources said that CM Gehlot has given his node to the proposal and the official announcement might be made soon.

The Congress is yet to release its first list of candidates for Lok Sabha polls.

There were speculations that Vaibhav Gehlot might get the ticket from Jalore- Sirohi or Jodhpur seat. But sources said that the party is likely to filed Vaibhav Gehlot from Jodhpur. Senior leaders held a discussion in this regard with Congress president Rahul Gandhi who was in Jaipur on Tuesday for booth sameelan meet.

Jodhpur is the stronghold of CM Ashok Gehlot which may work in favor of Vaibhav if he is fielded from the constituency.

According to a party official, Vaibhav Gehlot is an active member of the Congress party. His electoral debut was also planned earlier in 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Tonk- Sawaimadhopur constituency.

Jodhpur parliamentary constituency comprises eight assembly constituencies. Congress candidates represent six of them, while two seats are with the BJP.

The dates for upcoming Lok Sabha Elections were announced by Election Commission of India. Polling in Rajasthan on 25 seats will be held on April 29 (Phase 4) and May 6 (Phase 5). The results will be announced on May 23.
