JAIPUR: The newly-constructed Terminal – 1 at Jaipur International will not be operational this October. The launch of the much-awaited terminal has been postponed due to technical glitches and a lack of security personnel.

The construction work is almost complete, but the terminal will not become functional this year, according to sources. The terminal was to be used for operating international flights. As the launch has been postponed, Terminal 2 will continue to reel under an increased passenger load during the tourism season. Both domestic and international flights are being operated from Terminal – 2.

The Airport Authority of India started developing Terminal – 1 at the start of 2022. The authorities were planning to complete the work and start operating domestic flights in October.

On October 11, the management of the airport was handed over to the Adani Group. Some technical glitches came to light. A lack of CISF personnel for security and parking space for aircraft are being cited as other reasons for the delay in the launch of the terminal.

There are about 550 security personnel and officers working at Jaipur airport at present. It was announced that The number would be increased to 794 in June. However, they are yet to be deployed. Besides, aerobridges are yet to be built which are mandatory for operating international flights. According to the rules, it is necessary to have an aerobridge for international flights. Parking for aircraft is also not fully developed near Terminal 1.
