Kota: Mandi secretary, XEn among five arrested by ACB for taking bribe

Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested secretary of Rajasthan state agriculture marketing board secretary Rampal Kumawat, XEn Prarelal Meena, AEn Amar Singh, JEn Somesh Agarwal and cashier Sajid Hussain after they were caught taking a bribe of Rs 1.40 lakh in Kota.

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested Rajasthan state agriculture marketing board secretary Rampal Kumawat, XEn Prarelal Meena, AEn Amar Singh, JEn Somesh Agarwal and cashier Sajid Hussain after they were caught taking a bribe of Rs 1.40 lakh in Kota. An ACB team from Jaipur under the supervision of AdSP Narottam Varma led the trap, according to ADG, ACB Alok Tripathi.

A man had approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against the five government officials. The complainant said that he was awarded a work order for constructing a road in Krishi Upaj Mandi in Kota. The five government officers were demanding a bribe of Rs 4 lakh to release the payment for the work done by the contractor.

The ACB verified the complaint and when found it to be genuine, they laid a trap. A team went to Kota to trap the five officials.

The ACB team had already verified the complaint.

“Rajasthan state agriculture marketing board secretary Rampal Kumawat, XEn Prarelal Meena, AEn Amar Singh, JEn Somesh Agarwal and cashier Sajid Hussain were arrested after they were caught taking a bribe of Rs 1.40 lakh. They were arrested and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” said Narottam Varma.

The officer said that searches are being conducted at the offices and residences belonging to the accused officials. They will be produced in a court on Thursday. Further investigation is going on.
