Jaipur: An 18-year-old coaching student, identified as Niharika Devangan, committed suicide by hanging herself at her hostel room in Jawahar Nagar police station area in Kota on Saturday.

Niharika was a resident of Dhantari district in Chhattisgarh, according to the police. She was studying in ALLEN coaching institute in Kota and preparing for NEET. The medical aspirant lived in Maha Laxmi Hostel in Kota’s Jawahar Nagar area.

According to the police, she was struggling with her studies. She cleared her class 12 examination last year.

“She had been in Kota for the past five months. She was struggling with studies. On Saturday morning, her hostel mates saw her outside her room. When she didn’t come out of her room for lunch, other girls knocked on the door and got no response,” said a police officer.

When they peeked into the room through a window, they saw the girl hanging from the ceiling of her room.

The hostel administration informed the police following which a team was immediately rushed to the spot. The cops got the body down and put it in the mortuary of a hospital for a postmortem examination.

The police are waiting for the family members to arrive.

The spat of suicides by students in the country’s coaching hub has again raised questions marks over the pressure of studies that the students are put through.
