Jaipur: The body of a 20-year-old coaching student, Abdulla Aziz, was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room in Rajeev Gandhi Nagar of Kota on Thursday. The student was a resident of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. His body was in the process of decomposition and had been hanging for the past at least three days, raising questions over the lack of vigil by the hostel owner and the coaching institute.

The body was spotted when the hostel owner felt foul smell coming out of the victim’s room. He knocked on the door and got no response. He informed the police following which a team was rushed there.

Abdulla stayed in Mohini Residency Hostel in Rajeev Gandhi Nagar.

“We received a call from the hostel around 10 pm about foul smell emanating out of Abdulla’s room. A team was immediately rushed there. We had to break open the door of room number 106 to gain entry. We found him hanging,” said a police officer.

The police have recovered a dairy from the hostel room. “Prima facie it seems that the student was depressed over some family disputes. We suspect that it could have drove him to commit suicide; however, further investigation is going on to ascertain the cause,” said the officer.

Abdulla was below average student in studies. His father Roshan Aziz is a ticket collector in the railways. Aziz had talked to his parents on December 3. He had booked a ticket for Lucknow for December 24.

The police have handed over the body to family members after a postmortem examination.
