Kanota accident on NH-11 near Jaipur: vehicles ram into each-other, 50 injured

Jaipur: At least one person was killed and 50 people were injured when nearly 60 vehicles rammed into each-other due to dense fog on National Highway – 11 near Kanota in Jaipur district on Sunday, additional district magistrate (Jaipur south) Hari Singh Meena said. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the number of causalities will climb.
At least 30 people are undergoing treatment at Jaipur’s SMS Hospital.

Police had a tough time towing away the vehicles damaged in the road accident and clearing the highway. Vehicles piled up on both sides of the road.
The accident occurred near Kanota in the morning. The police are investigating the cause of the accident, but initial report suggest that a vehicle rammed into a stationed truck. As dense fog reduced visibility on the road, nearly 60 vehicles rammed into each-other.
AMD (south) Meena told The PinkCity Post that injured were rushed to at least six different hospitals. “Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to SMS Hospital. About 20 people have been discharged after primary treatment. Thirty others are undergoing treatement at SMS Hospital. At least one person has succumbed to injuries,” said Meena.
He said that at least eight cranes were pressed into service to tow away the vehicles involved in the mishap. “The traffic resumed by 11 pm,” said Meena.
“It’s a complete chaos. Several people have been injured in the mishap. We are trying to deal with the situation,” Kanota police station SHO Gauri Shankar told The PinkCity Post.
“The vehicles were piled up on a one-kilometer stretch. It was not an easy job for us to clear the highway, but police force from several nearby police station is helping us with the rescue operation,” said the officer.
